Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces increasing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as important members in House Halovar could assist the group enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Questers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can expect finding out which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
